Sweets for the Sweet

by Debra Goldyn

Baking at altitude has always been difficult, and making candy poses even greater challenges. Thanks to Littleton residents Patty Ross and Amy Larson, we now have an excellent resource to guide us.

The duo have published “The Rocky Mountain Sweet Shoppe Cookbook,” which demystifies the candy-making process. There are more than 200 recipes, all clearly explained and easy to follow. For once, all the recipes are versions created at altitude, with adjustments available for those living at sea level.

The recipe shown here is taken from the book, which is available at area bookstores or through their Web site.

Allenspark Marbled Mint Bark (many of the recipes are named after Colorado cities) would make an excellent treat for any holiday celebration.

For Valentine’s Day, whip up a batch and package the bars in cellophane treat bags. Give them to friends, neighbors, co-workers...who says Cupid has to hog all the fun?
