Will You B&B Mine?B&Bs are marvelous for getaways all year ’round, but they really shine for special occasionsby Debra Goldyn |

A new word entered the lexicon in 2008 — “staycation.” In deference to an uncertain economy, more travelers have opted to stay home and vacation in their backyards. As a result, they’re discovering the joys of playing tourist in familiar territory. When you don’t need to buy plane tickets or rent a car, one of the areas you can splurge on is where to stay. Booking a room at a B&B, even if only for a night, is an easy way to enhance your experience. For special occasions, such as birthdays, anniversaries, or Valentine’s Day, the charm and unique ambience they provide make for a memorable event.

Guests enjoy afternoon tea when they check in, and tea is also available to visitors with advance reservations. This month Castle Marne is hosting a “Sweets for the Sweet” Valentine’s Tea from the 8th through the 15th, featuring savories, tea sandwiches, scones, and dessert for parties of four of more. (Check the Web site for additional details.) If you don’t have time for a fullblown vacation, scheduling a weekend at Castle Marne is a great alternative. Check out some of Denver’s best museums and attractions, buy tickets for the theater, or enjoy dinner out on the town.

If you really want to make the occasion special, opt for the Presidential Suite, which features a private balcony, loveseat, and a jacuzzi tub.
