B&Bs are marvelous for getaways all year ’round, but they really shine for special occasions

A new word entered the lexicon in 2008 — “staycation.” In deference to an uncertain economy, more travelers have opted to stay home and vacation in their backyards. As a result, they’re discovering the joys of playing tourist in familiar territory.
When you don’t need to buy plane tickets or rent a car, one of the areas you can splurge on is where to stay. Booking a room at a B&B, even if only for a night, is an easy way to enhance your experience. For special occasions, such as birthdays, anniversaries, or Valentine’s Day, the charm and unique ambience they provide make for a memorable event.
In the Denver area, there are a number of excellent B&Bs to choose from. Here are two that we find intriguing.

If you’re looking for a touch of elegance and relaxation in the heart of the city, look no further than Castle Marne Bed and Breakfast. The gorgeous Castle Marne shouldn’t be reserved solely for out-of-town visitors. Built in 1889, the castle is listed on the National Register of Historic Structures, and will make you feel as if you’ve journeyed back in time to a more genteel era.
Guests enjoy afternoon tea when they check in, and tea is also available to visitors with advance reservations. If you don’t have time for a fullblown vacation, scheduling a weekend at Castle Marne is a great alternative. Check out some of Denver’s best museums and attractions, buy tickets for the theater, or enjoy dinner out on the town.
